Cuba – Café Cubano
Small, yet mighty. The Cubano is sugar-brewed espresso often enjoyed with a Cuban cigar.
Finland – Kaffeost
Cheese curds + coffee? In Finland, do as the Finnish do and have your coffee poured over chunks of juustoleipä. In case you’re not up to speed with the Finnish language, that translates to “coffee cheese.”
Turkey – Türk Kahvesi
Turkish coffee is not filtered, so the grounds settle at the bottom. For those of you not sure what to do, you drink it with the grounds. Finely ground roasted coffee beans are simmered in a special copper or brass pot called a cezve.
Senegal – Café Touba
Guinea pepper and cloves make Senegalese coffee quite an exotic treat. The spices are mixed in with the beans for roasting, then ground and filtered.
Mexico – Café de Olla
Served in a clay mug which is believed to bring out the coffee’s flavors, this coffee in Mexico is simmered with a cinnamon stick and then mixed with piloncillo (unrefined cane sugar).
Morocco – Spiced coffee
Did someone say spices? This Moroccan dark blend combines fragrant spices like cardamom, black pepper, cinnamon, clove and nutmeg.
Italy – Espresso Romano
In Italy, espresso comes with a slice of lemon which is said to bring out the coffee’s sweeter flavors.
