Veracruz, Mexico

Triptime® Global Top 50 travels to the Emerald Coast of Mexico landing in the State of Veracruz.  Set long on the Gulf of Mexico, Veracruz is quickly becoming one of Mexico’s hottest travel destinations.  The capital of the state is also called Veracruz (technically called Heroica Veracruz).  The city is the Americas very first coastal settlement.  Founded by Spanish explorer Hernán Cortés, in 1519, due to the discovery of gold, Cortés became a Spanish legend and Veracruz was established.  Historically not well known as a tourist spot, many people are now beginning to notice just how amazing Veracruz is.  Besides the great coastline, there are great restaurants, an amazing jungle and an incredible ancient ruins, such as the Unesco World Heritage siteEl Tajin…

ATV sand dunes / Sand Boarding

Hop on an ATV for a few hours and ride on a “sea of sand.”  The ocean borders one side of the dune which makes great panoramic scenery as you race through sand.  The wide, and hilly dunes make an excellent ATV course.  Want something different?  Try your luck at Sand-boarding to ‘surf the turf.’

Named a world heritage site in 1992, El Tajín is a pre-Columbian archeological site in Veracruz and is one of the largest and most important cities of the Classic era of Mesoamerica. A part of the Classic Veracruz culture, El Tajín flourished from 600 to 1200 C.E. and during this time numerous temples, palaces, ball courts, and pyramids were built.  From the time the city fell, in 1230, to 1785, no European seems to have known of its existence, until a government inspector stumbled upon the Pyramid of the Niches and thus finding the El Tajín ruins.
